Antigua and Barbuda into LICB Finals

Antigua and Barbuda stormed into the finals of the Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB) Super 50 Tournament on Friday, beating Anguilla by 102 runs in Bethesda.

Asked to bat, Antigua and Barbuda struggled at the top of the order and at one point, were 69 for six in the 20th over.

The home team lost its opening pair cheaply with Devon Thomas going for just 12 runs after 17 deliveries and Kadeem Phillip getting only six after five balls.

Deran Benta, batting down the order and fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, combined to rescue Antigua and Barbuda, hitting 42 and 41 respectively to carry their team to 204 all out in 48.4 overs. There were contributions from Hayden Walsh Jr with 25, Justin Athanaze with 24 not out and Orlando Peters with 22.

Kelbert Walters was the pick of the bowlers for Anguilla with five wickets for 43 runs in 7.4 overs while Chaka Hodge claimed three for 29, also in 7.4 overs.

Walsh Jr then proved too much for the Anguillan batsmen, snatching five wickets for just 16 runs in 7.4 overs. Alzarri Joseph and Rahkeem Cornwall each had two wickets.

Deon Burton was the only scorer of note for Anguilla with 30 from 39 deliveries while Jahmar Hamilton and Keacy Carty added 23 and 22 runs respectively.

In the other semifinal clash, defending champions St. Kitts were in pursuit of 223 for victory against Nevis in All Saints.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, Nevis compiled 222 all out in 48.2 overs. K. Powell top scored with 79 from 101 balls while A. Browne added 57 to the total. Jerimiah Louis was the pick of the bowlers for St. Kitts, picking up three wickets for 52 runs in 8.2 overs. In the 33rd over, St. Kitts were 138 for three in their chase.  

The final will be contested today (Saturday) in All Saints.
