Antigua and Barbuda will fight to avoid relegation on Tuesday against Dominica in League B of the Concacaf Nations League, after they suffered a blow on Saturday, falling 2-1 to Bermuda at the Estadio Cibao FC in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.
The Benna Boys endured an unfortunate start when defender Zafique Drew’s attempted goal line clearance resulted in an own goal in the 8th minute, giving Bermuda the early advantage. Their challenges increased shortly after halftime when Bermuda’s Reggie Lambe volleyed home in the 48th minute to double the lead.
However, Antigua and Barbuda showed their resilience and fighting spirit, with Daryl Massicot producing a moment of brilliance in the 69th minute. His beautifully curled shot gave the team hope of a comeback, though ultimately they couldn’t find the equalizer.
The defeat leaves Antigua and Barbuda in a precarious position in Group D, sitting three points ahead of bottom-placed Dominica. The team now faces a crucial relegation battle against Dominica on Tuesday, where their League B survival hangs in the balance.
In the group’s other match, leaders Dominican Republic maintained their perfect record with a commanding 6-1 victory over Dominica. The hosts’ impressive performance featured braces from both Dorny Romero and Heinz Mörschel, along with goals from Rafael Mata and Erick Paniagua, while Travist Joseph scored Dominica’s lone goal.
The final matchday on Tuesday will be decisive for Antigua and Barbuda as they aim to secure their League B status. A positive result against Dominica would ensure their survival in the division, while defeat could put their position in jeopardy depending on other results.
