Antigua and Barbuda Beaten by Hosts St Lucia in ECCB International Netball Series

Antigua and Barbuda suffered their first defeat of the ECCB International Netball Series on Monday, going under 55-38 to hosts St Lucia when they met in the feature game at the Beausejour Indoor Facility in Castries.

Rayana Regis was the top scorer for Antigua and Barbuda, sinking 34 of 35 attempts in the losing effort. Goal attack, Amey Lake, contributed with three of six while substitute goal shoot, Tashana Bloomfield, shot a perfect 100 percent after sinking her only attempt.

For the victors, goal shoot Merlessa Alfred sank 28 of 35 attempts, while goal attack Dasha Eugene hit 21 of 28 attempts. Substitute goal shoot, Samaj Margeurite and Shem Maxwell both hit three of three attempts.

Meanwhile, defending champions Grenada rebounded from their opening loss to Antigua and Barbuda to beat Cayman Islands 47-36. Goal shoot Amy Nixon led the charge for Grenada with 19 of 21 attempts while substitute goal shoot Carlene Alexander dropped 17 of 19 attempts. Goal attack, Celia Brown, contributed with 11 of 15 attempts.

In a losing effort, goal shoot Kay Copeland, carried the brunt of the scoring for the Cayman Islands with 28 of 33 attempts. Goal attack, Rose Wilson, contributed with eight of 16 attempts.

There was victory as well for Dominica as they beat Montserrat 58-16 in a one-sided affair. Dominica were led by goal attack, Seraphine Gordon who hit 30 of 34 attempts with goal shoot Anna-Maria Panthier picking up 22 of 25 attempts. Goal shoot, Juana Osborne was the only shooter of note for Montserrat with 13 of 36 attempts.

In Monday’s other contest, St Vincent and the Grenadines easily beat Anguilla 87-8. Mary-Ann Fredericks dominated the scoring for SVG with 49 of 50 attempts with substitute Jamarah Coombs picked up 20 of 28 attempts. Shellisa Davis, also a substitute goal shoot, made good on 10 of her 16 attempts while goal attack Kristiana Christopner hit eight of nine attempts. Zoey Roach sank all eight baskets for Anguilla.
