Anthony Smith, the former United Progressive Party (UPP) representative who recently won the All Saints East and St. Luke constituency, is set to be sworn in as Minister of Agriculture this morning at Government House.
This appointment comes less than 24 hours after Smith’s surprise resignation from the UPP.
Smith, who unseated the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s Michael Browne in a decisive victory on January 18, will be working under the agriculture portfolio, a position that E.P. Chet Green currently holds.
In his resignation letter, officially submitted to the UPP on Monday, Smith was highly critical of his former party. He stated that his goals and vision were no longer aligned with those of the UPP, citing disagreements with recent party directions and decisions.
