Ambassador meets with the US State Department over tax haven claims

Antigua & Barbuda’s Ambassador to the United States Sir Ronald Sanders said he will remain vigorous in attempts to have the US State Department retract its claim that the twin island state is a tax haven.
The government has also contended that the 2017 US International Narcotics Control Strategy Report (INSCR 2017) misrepresents the situation with regards to Antigua & Barbuda’s Citizenship by Investment Programme (CIP) and its anti-money laundering and countering financing of terrosim (AML/CTF) regimes.
Sir Ronald, who met with US officials on Tuesday, told OBSERVER media that he is facing an “uphill battle.”
“On the behalf of the government, I have invited the United States Department to provide the evidence of what they say in the report. I have given them the undertaking that if they can give us the evidence that supports the claims they make, we will rectify; we will invite them to come to Antigua to rectify the problem.”
The ambassador argued that the INSCR report is of grave concern to Antigua & Barbuda and the 21 other countries listed in the document.
He said the problem about the report is that it does not idenfity its sources and is not based on factual evidence.
