A man charged for three of last year’s 20 killings escaped from custody yesterday afternoon when investigators were escorting him to an area in Swetes.
The news of escapee, Delano Forbes on the loose, left residents in the area in fear, shock and anger as the sun set and there was still no sight of the 23-year old man.
The officers were reportedly taking the escapee to an area in Swetes based on information obtained in a recent interview. They were expecting to find additional evidence in relation to several ongoing cases.
Scores of villagers were out helping the police comb the village for the accused who, up until yesterday, had been on remand in prison since December 2017 after he was charged with the killing of Wilfred ‘Bongo’ Williams, Shawn Henry and Lisue Williams – whose throats were all slit.
All three men were killed last year and the police had said earlier that they found jars of what appeared to be blood at Forbes’ home when they were investigating the killings in December.
The police spread their dragnet across Swetes and neighbouring villages, using personnel from the Special Services Unit, the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force, the Rapid Response Unit, the K-9 unit and Narcotics.
