Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason has dismissed all charges against 82-year-old Stedman Scotland, stating that justice would be served by throwing the matter out.

Scotland, who had been charged with multiple offences including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, battery on police, failing to give name, failing to comply with lawful direction, and threatening language, will no longer face prosecution.

The prosecution had sought to defer the charges pending an evaluation of Scotland, but Magistrate Wason rejected this approach, indicating he was not prepared to adjourn the case for any period and that no good could come from doing so.

The decision brings to a close the legal proceedings against Scotland, who was captured on video being forcibly thrown to the ground and placed in the trunk of a police vehicle following a parking dispute outside a barbershop two weeks ago.

Scotland, who reportedly suffers from the effects of a previous brain injury and displays a disability sticker on his vehicle, had garnered public support after video of the confrontation circulated widely on social media.

More details to come in tomorrow’s edition of the Daily Observer.
