AGS and CHSS record wins on opening day of Schools’ cricket

Antigua Grammar School (AGS) and Clare Hall Secondary School (CHSS) recorded wins on the opening day of the 2022 edition of schools’ cricket.

AGS trounced Glanvilles Secondary School (GSS), winning by 168 runs with 198 for two in 13 overs at the King George V Grounds on Monday.

Jewel Andrew led the charge with the bat for the victors, making an impressive 87 not out, hitting four sixes and 12 fours.

His teammate, Xanden Hobson was five runs shy of recording his first century for this season, making 45 not out with two sixes and four fours under his belt.

Captain Shamar Pereira assisted making 29.

Glanvilles’ Tazio Watson and Tarom Watson both took one wicket.

In reply, GSS could only muster up 30 runs.

Matthew Miller had the best bowling figures for the Semper Virens, taking four wickets for 11 runs in four overs.

Glen Williams took three wickets while teammates Shamar Pereira and Anthony Pierre both took one wicket.

Meanwhile, in the other encounter on at the Rising Sun Grounds, Clare Hall Secondary handed Ottos Comprehensive School (OCS) their first defeat for the season, as CHSS won by seven wickets.

Batting first, OCS amassed a commendable 174 for three.

X Toppin was the highest scoring batsman for OCS with 65 runs. Teammates, J Joseph and Z Scott contributed with 42 and 20.

D Yaw took one wicket for 16 runs in two overs.

The 174 total would however not be enough as CHSS met the target of 175 after losing only three wickets.

M Walsh had a stellar performance for the victors with a 110-run effort.

D Yaw made 13.

Z Scott had the best bowling figures for OCS, taking two wickets for 16 runs in four overs.
