There is no denying that afrobeat music genre and African culture have taken the world by storm and in Antigua and Barbuda it is no different.

For the first time ever, the twin-island nation will welcome international afrobeat star BNXN (pronounced Benson) also known as Buju, a Nigerian Afro-fusion singer.

Buju, who is well known for his features in top world hits like “Ah Finesse” and “Big Mood”, will begin his North American tour in Antigua and Barbuda where he is set to perform at the twin island nation’s first ever afro beats festival dubbed ‘Yoruba’ slated for October 29.

He is just the second afrobeat star who will visit the Caribbean as Burna Boy is expected to perform in Dominica later this month.

Buju was the first Nigerian to have five number one songs in the country’s charts for 2021-2022.

“It’s a big deal to have someone like him on the lineup. I am expecting this event to attract international attention and to really put Antigua on the map. We already have some people expected to come in from Canada, New York and Miami just in time for Independence celebrations,” promoter of the event Jonathan Barnes said.

The event will also feature international and local DJs like DJ Boat from Ghana, Selecta Jigga from New York City, DJ Elementz, DJ Tenny, DJ Woodenfoot, as well as local afro-centric performers like Naycha Kid and Khan Cordice.

The event, which will be hosted by Kez the Entertainer and Ibis the Livest, will begin at 5 pm and end at 1am; admission is $100 and VIP $300.
