An entertainer who has been deemed a “flight risk” by the court, was yesterday denied bail on a rape charge.
The 42 year old man who cannot be named due to legal restrictions, allegedly forced himself on an ex-girlfriend on July 30, 2018.
Following her report and an investigation, he was recently charged and taken to court yesterday morning for the offence which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.
The accused man and the female complainant were in a relationship which had come to an end, but they remained friends up to the time of the alleged attack.
On the night of the incident, he was allegedly taking her home.
Yesterday, Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel denied the man bail due to the seriousness of the allegation and the fact he’s a visitor who travels back and forth between Antigua and his nativeland, Jamaica.
The man, who was represented by attorney
Warren Cassell, has been living in Antigua for under a year and he has no ties to the country, making him a flight risk in the eyes of the prosecution and magistrate in the All Saints Magistrate’s Court.
The commital hearing for the case is February 6, 2019.
