The Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) has announced that it has been barred from allowing spectators to enter the grounds during the body’s hosting of the 2023 Road to Concacaf W Gold Cup clash between the Antigua and Barbuda Benna Girls and Suriname at the FA’s technical centre on November 29.

The development follows alleged security breaches during hosting of the Antigua and Barbuda vs Dominica clash in the said competition here on October 29, when a spectator or spectators invaded the field of play during a disturbance among players and spectators.

According to the ABFA release, “CONCACAF, the governing body, has taken decisive action. For the upcoming game on November 29th, 2023, where Antigua and Barbuda will face Suriname, it has been determined that no spectators will be permitted to attend.

“The ABFA would like to extend its sincerest apologies to our passionate supporters for any inconvenience caused as a result of these measures. We understand the disappointment this may cause and deeply appreciate the ongoing commitment and dedication of our fans”.

The FA said it remains committed to ensuring an environment that fosters a positive and enjoyable experience for all attendees and participants of its matches.

“Moving forward, the ABFA will continue to evaluate and enhance the necessary protocols to safeguard the integrity and reputation of football in Antigua and Barbuda. We value the ongoing support and encouragement from our stakeholders and are committed to addressing and preventing any further instances that may compromise the well-being of all those involved in our sport,” it added.

Yesterday’s clash was scheduled to kick off at 3pm.
