The Antigua and Barbuda Emergency Medical Services (ABEMS) is taking proactive steps in response to recent concerns regarding Mpox.

In light of these concerns, the management of ABEMS has issued a comprehensive alert to all Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), emphasizing the importance of vigilance in identifying signs and symptoms associated with the virus.

As part of these efforts, ABEMS has aligned its practices with industry-best standards and standard operating procedures (SOPs) by implementing strict precautionary measures.

EMTs are now required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times during their duties, with all necessary supplies made readily available to them.

In the coming weeks, ABEMS will conduct targeted training sessions for its staff. These sessions will focus on the identification of Mpox symptoms, the correct usage of PPE, and updated reporting protocols.

The goal of this educational program is to enhance the ability of EMTs to accurately and promptly identify individuals who may present with symptoms such as skin rashes or other signs of viral infection when calling for medical assistance.

ABEMS remains unwavering in its commitment to providing exemplary service while ensuring the health and safety of both the public and its personnel.

The organization continues to prioritize effective response to all medical and trauma emergencies, with a strong emphasis on the protection of its staff and their families during this period of heightened concern.
