The Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation, and Investment has announced that Tourism Week 2024 will be celebrated from November 17 to 24.
According to a press release, this year’s theme, “Our Cruise Sector: Realising the Benefits and Embracing Sustainability for the Future”, underscores the crucial role of cruise tourism in the nation’s economy and its commitment to sustainable practices.
The week-long celebration kicks off with a Thanksgiving Service at Swetes Wesleyan Holiness Church, followed by a Fun Day at Ffryes Beach on November 17. This opening event aims to bring together tourism stakeholders and nationals, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.
“Tourism Charity Day” on November 19 aims to encourage tourism partners and community members to engage in charitable activities, showcasing the industry’s positive impact on social causes.
The following day, tourism stakeholders will have the opportunity to experience a popular tourist attraction firsthand during the “Know Your Product Day: Catamaran Sunset Cruise, and tickets for this event are available from Miss Annette Michael at the Ministry of Tourism.
The importance of early tourism education is emphasied on November 21, with the “It Begins with Us, Preschool March.” This event will involve preschools across Antigua and Barbuda, instilling an appreciation for tourism in the younger generation.
Friday, November 22, features the Tourism Blast Off Street Fair, coinciding with Antigua Cruise Ports’ 5th Anniversary. This dynamic event will showcase local artisans, Agri-processors, food, and entertainment, offering an interactive experience for both visitors and locals, the release said.
The celebration culminates with the prestigious Tourism Awards Gala on November 24 – a formal event which will honour industry leaders, tourism pioneers, and key stakeholders for their contributions to the sector.
The Minister of Tourism, Hon Charles Fernandez, extends an invitation to all Antiguans and Barbudans to participate in this exciting week of events. Tourism Week 2024 promises to offer something for everyone, highlighting the significant role tourism plays in the nation’s everyday life and development.
