Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov have signed a visa waiver agreement to remove travel restrictions between the two countries.

The agreement was signed during the Prime Minister’s recent visit to St. Petersburg, where he was joined by Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister, Ambassador Colin Murdoch, and Antigua and Barbuda’s Honorary Consul to Russia, Julien Hansen.

Speaking at the post-Cabinet press briefing last week, Chief of Staff within the Prime Minister’s Office, Lionel “Max” Hurst explained the rationale for the agreement.

“We are looking at as many ways as possible to increase the number of countries not requiring visas,” he said, noting Antigua and Barbuda’s 30 years of diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation.

Hurst noted that this agreement will provide another market for CIP applications.
