A 50-room Marriott Courtyard-style hotel will be built at the Cedar Valley Golf Course on Crown lands – with an investment of EC $20,000,000 required to fund the development.

Speaking at the post-Cabinet press briefing on Thursday, Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister, Lionel “Max” Hurst expressed his confidence in the success of this project.

The Cabinet took the decision to invite about 50 nationals to purchase as many shares in the hotel, so that the Government would not have to go to the regional markets, he said.

“They are lands that have not been transferred to anyone on which the Government of Antigua and Barbuda believes it can build a hotel, but instead of waiting for some outsider to come in with the resources with a foreign investment of 20 million dollar hotel we believe that there are sufficient number of Antiguans with that kind of resource laying around in the bank. We will be more than happy to take the risk of building a hotel at a golf course. It’s bound to be a success.
