Residents who helped themselves to cans and bottles of Coca-Cola that fell off a delivery truck on Monday, could face larceny charges.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Clayton Davis, although no official report has been made to date, if the owners of the goods do so, charges could be filed against the offenders.
“Those items must have belonged to someone,” he said. “The person should come forward and lodge a complaint. People who went and took those things without the consent of the owner have committed an offence, which is larceny.”
Davis, who is also Head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), was speaking after the release of a video recording of an incident which occurred in the vicinity of the Midway Service Station some time on Monday.
The recording, which has gone viral, showed several cases of bottled and canned soft drinks scattered along the road after a pallet on the truck reportedly loosened and caused the mishap.
A number of people were caught on video helping themselves to the beverages.
ACP Davis said he is aware of the video but he has not been able to review it.
