Swetes stun Empire as Bullets shoot to the top in Super 8 Swetes recorded their first victory in the Antigua & Barbuda Football Association’s (ABFA) Wadadli Beer Super 8 Championships on Tuesday, stunning former 13 times Premier Division champions Empire, 2-1, in the feature match of a double-header at the Antigua Recreation Ground (ARG).
National youth striker Shalon Knight put Swetes ahead in minute 62 after the teams had played an uneventful first half.
The First Division champions who are hoping to send a message about their intentions for the Premier Division next season, stretched their lead just eight minutes later when Juwan Roberts netted from close range.
Empire managed to pull a goal back during added time when Shakimba Williams executed from the penalty spot.
The victory was Swetes’ first following a 1-0 opening loss to Pigotts Bullets on Sunday while Empire, who enjoyed a narrow 1-0 victory over John Hughes also on Monday, recorded their first loss in Group 2.
Meanwhile in Monday’s opening match, striker Alicston Montoute netted twice as Pigotts Bullets defeated Second Division champions John Hughes 4-1.
Montoute netted in minutes 64 and 82 while there was a single strike from Jordon Schomoker in minute 19. Bullets’ other conversion came as a result of an own-goal by Leocraft Burnside who inadvertently put the ball into the back of his own net.
John Hughes’ lone strike came in minute 34 from Norris Hope.
The victory saw Bullets to the top of the standings in Group 1 with six points while John Hughes are yet to get off the mark.
