BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Mar. 12, CMC – A second high court chamber, outfitted with modern technology will be officially opened on Monday by Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, Dame Janice Pereira .
Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs Vincent Byron said the additional court room would help reduce the backlog of cases before the high court, thus speeding up access to justice.
“It is a model of how courts would proceed where evidence will be presented on-screen; where it will be technologically adept in making our court processes much better and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of dispensing justice in St. Kitts.”
Construction of the new chamber began late in 2016 and experienced a few delays before its recent completion.
A second resident high court judge is to be appointed for St. Kitts in the near future.
