ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Orion and Clare Hall both recorded victories in the Seventh Day Adventist Inter-Church Cricket League on Saturday night as they overpowered their opponents when they met at Dredgers Playing Field.
Orion defeated Freetown by nine wickets while Clare Hall completed a comprehensive 16-run win over Pentecostal.
In the opening contest, Clare Hall rebounded from a position of three for one in the third over to post an imposing 90 for one after their quota of ten overs.
Mervin Higgins top-scored with 55 not out and Swango Mark scored 25 not out. Darren Benta, who took the only wicket for the Pentecostal team, also topped the batting for the losers, scoring 36 in a reply of 74 for six.
Vernell Isadore took two for five for Clare Hall.
In the feature game of the night, Orion reduced Freetown to 44 for six, after they were 27 without loss in the third over. Seth Burton bagged three wickets for two runs while Glen Horseford scored 19.
In Orion’s chase, Al Burton scored 26 not out, as the Liberta-based team raced to 46 for one off 5.1 overs.
Orion moved to two wins from three matches in Group B, the same as Group A contenders Clare Hall. Next week’s action will be at both the Dredgers and Painters venues.
