New Winthorpe scores upset victory in 40 overs

New Winthorpes scored an upset victory in the State Insurance 40 overs cricket competition over the weekend, beating Caribbean Union Bank (CUB) Bethesda Golden Eagles by 39 runs when they clashed in Bethesda.
Winning the toss and opting to bat, New Winthorpes amassed 277 for seven in their 40 overs with Jermaine Otto leading the way, hitting 156 not out. Bartlett Henry contributed with 31 runs.
In reply, Bethesda fell short at 238 for seven as their 40 overs elapsed. Shacoy Floyd was best with the bat for the home team, hitting 65 while Deran Benta contributed 48 and Jamall Fernandez hit 44.
Meanwhile, People’s Insurance Company (PIC) Liberta Blackhawks crushed their opponents, Pigotts Crushers, by 121 runs when they met in Pigotts.
Batting first, Blackhawks made 225 for nine in their 40 overs. West Indies and Leeward Islands all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall dominated the batting with 95 runs with knocks of 44 and 43 coming from Ian Gore and Kadeem Phillip respectively.
Bowling for the home team, Vincent Shadrach Jr bagged three wickets for 33 runs from seven overs while Demari Benta and Malique Gerald each had two wickets.
Crushers could only muster a reply of 104 all out in 27.3 overs. Their best effort came from Jaison Peters who reached 32.
Leading the way with the ball for the Blackhawks, Javy Benjamin picked up three wickets for 10 runs in four overs. Cornwall snatched three wickets for 12 runs in six overs and Karima Gore claimed three for 15 off eight overs.
Meanwhile, two matches – Empire versus Aqualympia Rising Suns  and Spartans All Saints versus Bolans – were cancelled due to rain.
