Antigua & Barbuda’s Grenades FC picked up their first and only point in the final round of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Caribbean Club Championships on Tuesday, after clawing themselves back from a 2-nil deficit to pull off a 2-2 Group
A draw against Cibao of the DominicanRepublic.
Playing at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad, Grenades went down 2-0 within the opening 11 minutes of the second half when Cibao’s Woodensky Cherenfant netted twice within two minutes, scoring in the 54th and 56th, respectively.
The Antiguans found a glimmer of hope in the 85th when striker Tevaughn Harriette pulled a goal back and one minute later, an own goal by Cibao’s Cesar Garcia levelled the scores at 2-2.
Grenades, however, could not find the winner that would have sent them into the third place match.
Meanwhile, in the Group B clash, Portmore United defeated Racing FC out of Haiti 1-0 as they claimed the other spot for the third place clash.
Ricardo Morris scored the lone goal of the contest in minute 17.
The third place and finals will be contested on May 21 at the same venue.
