The police have ruled out foul play in the death of a man believed to be in his 70s, whose body was discovered in a gutter in Clare Hall yesterday.
Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Inspector Frankie Thomas said the body of Patrick Alcid was found around 6 am on Sunday.
Reports are that the man, whose exact age was unknown up until the time of going to press, was last seen alive in the area where the discovery was made in the early morning hours.
According to police Alcid was known to be a heavy drinker and appeared to be under the influence when he was last seen.
Bottles which contained what looked like an alcoholic substances were also found near the scene.
Inspector Thomas said Alcid was last seen sitting on a concrete culvert, however, the cirumstances which led to him being found in the gutter remain a bit sketchy.
He was pronounced dead by the district doctor Delrose Christian around 7:30 am and his body was later transported to the Straffie’s Funeral home.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
