National youth footballer, Ronaldo Flowers, has described the experience in the Flow Ultimate Football Experience thus far as “very fun” adding that he was always confident of emerging as winner of the grand prize.
Speaking on the Good Morning Jojo Sports Show on Thursday, the 13-year-old Antigua Grammar School student, said he cherishes the opportunity he has been given.
“It was very fun and good and I enjoyed it a lot. The food, the opportunity to travel to Trinidad and the five star hotel. I wasn’t surprised when they said I won because the day before [the announcement] I dreamt they had called my name and that I had won and I always believe in God so I am not surprised,” he said.
Sowerby Gomes, coach of the Villa Lions Soccer Academy from which Flowers hails, credited the young player with being one of the most passionate for the game.
“Discipline is sound and he has the will and passion to play. Certain situations would have happened out on the field on many occasions and Ronaldo displayed a certain level of discipline that, as the coach, I didn’t impart that on him but he just came with it and that is just remarkable,” the coach said.
Flowers and the competition’s other winner, Trinidad & Tobago’s 16-year-old, Che Benny, are set to leave for England on Friday where they will watch, live, Manchester United’s final game of the season against Crystal Palace in the English Premier League (EPL) at Old Trafford
A camera crew, Gomes said, is currently on island capturing Flowers’ preparation for the anticipated trip.
“They were at the Antigua Grammar Schools and the film crew is capturing the historic areas of Antigua & Barbuda. They walked him through the paces during his national team training yesterday [Wednesday]. They interviewed his best teammates, his teacher, the principal of the Antigua Grammar School all giving highlights because they are building a story to recap when they go to Old Trafford on Friday so he is actually living a dream right now in terms of what’s happening,” the coach said.
As part of the initiative, Flowers and Benny will also meet with Manchester United Legends on their own turf and tour the Manchester United Museum.
