Residents are calling on the police to review surveillance footage that could reveal the identity of the lone gunman who beat and robbed a bus driver Sunday night after a football game at the Antigua Recreation Ground.

Otis Williams, who services the Old Road route, first called in to The Good Morning Jojo Sports Show on Wednesday to recount his ordeal.

In a later interview with OBSERVER media, Williams said he was seated in his 15-seater passenger bus at the western gate, waiting to pick up passengers who do not usually have reliable bus service after hours, when a man walked up to his window and said something.

“I didn’t hear what he said at the time, but the female passenger in the front seat heard and she said he asked for money. I didn’t think anything of it and the guy walked off and stood not too far from the bus, looking up Old Parham Road for about three minutes. All the while, people [were] leaving football, I felt safe because I was in a popular, well-lit place and people were around,” Williams said.

The driver said there were two passengers on board when the man returned to the same window and again demanded money.

“I took my eyes off him because he seemed harmless, and the next thing I heard was a click. I figured it was someone I knew making jokes, and when I looked up, I saw a gun and the same guy. He said ‘give me the money bag’, [which] I did, and then he asked for the money from my pocket. I told him I didn’t have any and he hit me over the eye with the gun,” Williams said.
