ST JOHN’S, Antigua- There were victories for defending champions New Winthorpes, former champions Tindall and St John’s, along with Liberta in the Seventh Day Adventist Inter-Church Cricket League (ICCL) over the weekend.
Playing at Powell’s field, New Winthorpes barely got home as they defeated Villa by two wickets but with the final runs coming off the last ball of the 10th and final over.
Batting first, Villa were restricted to 34 for seven in their 10 overs with their best effort coming from Eddie Poppon who had 11 runs. Glentis Martin bagged two wickets for eight runs and Vernon Frederick picked up two for 15, both bowling for the victors.
New Winthorpes, in reply, reached 35 for eight with the final run coming from the last ball of the match. Nicon Magrege took two for eight bowling for Villa.
In the other match played at Powell’s, Liberta defeated Freetown by 45 runs.
Baldwin Anthony and Gregson Merrick both had knocks of 22 as Liberta posted 95 for five in their 10 overs. Pete Lee snatched two wickets for 21 runs bowling for Freetown as they could only muster a reply of 47 for nine. Jared Roberts mastered Liberta’s bowling with three for eight, while Merrick bagged two for six.
Meanwhile at Dredgers, Tindall defeated Bible Speaks by four wickets. Tindall made 61 for six in 9.2 overs after having restricted Bible Speaks to 60 for four in their 10 overs.
In the other match played at Dredgers, St John’s beat Buckleys by five runs. St John’s managed to reach 54 for six in their 10 overs before they limited Buckleys to 49 for two.
The competition continues Thursday with a double-header.
