AUBURN, Washington, Apr 22, CMC – Reigning Emerald Downs champion Rocco Bowen continued the robust defence of this title with a triple at the scenic Pacific Northwest racetrack here Friday.
The 27-year-old jockey reeled off victories in race one with 15-1 outsider Barasso, in race three with 3-1 chance Dynamo Dixie before wrapping up a decent outing with success in race seven aboard favourite My Endless Love.
Bowen has nine wins from 38 starts in the new season which got going on April 8, and is five clear of Javier Matias.
He opened his account in a five-furlong sprint, carrying brown gelding Barasso to a 1-3/4 length victory over the three-year-olds.
Bowen duelled with favourite Sweet Swindler into the stretch before disposing of his opponent late on.
His second win came over 6-1/2 furlongs, combining with six-year-old chestnut gelding Dynamo Dixie, to edge the three-year-old and upwards by a neck.
Dynamo Dixie set the pace along the inside, was challenged by Drink Til You Drop approaching the quarter-pole, and disputed the lead before prevailing in the drive.
Bowen endured another close finish in the day’s final race when he steered bay filly My Endless Love to victory by a nose over the three-year-old maiden fillies.
He raced the bay off the pace set by the duelling pair of Survivedandthrived and Sister of the Sun before getting to the front with a furlong to run and then barely holding off the fast-finishing Island Girl.
